We asked a number of women about places which have been important (even if
in a very everyday way) in their lives. We compiled a list of personal landmarks from speaking with women in the
street, visitors to South Side, and older women from
the Brashear Community Center, many of whom had lived in the South Side all
their lives. In addition, we gathered information from questionnaires
distributed throughout South Side.
We placed small markers all over the South Side to commemorate the personal landmarks the women we interviewed had shared with us, thus making visible the often invisible map of women's experiences in the city neighborhood. The impermanence of the markers indicates the transience of these urban experiences.
This page, which includes a map of the southside indicating the personal
landmarks of our interviewees, requires frames. Frames are supported by Netscape 2.0 and above. They are now a standard
part of HTML.
